Anthony Doerr (1973–) is an American novelist and short-story writer. Drawing on a strong interest in nature and science, he writes about war, time, memory, and the unseen connections between people through detailed description and multiple narrative perspectives. “All the Light We Cannot See,” in which the lives of a blind French girl and a German orphan conscripted into the Nazi military intersect during World War II, won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and was later adapted as a Netflix series. In “Cloud Cuckoo Land,” Doerr connects characters living from the ancient world to the near future through a single story threatened with disappearance.
