アルバロ・エンリゲ（1969年–）は、メキシコのグアダラハラ生まれの小説家、短編作家、エッセイスト。イベロアメリカ大学でジャーナリズムを学び、文化誌の編集者やコラムニスト、文学教師として活動してきた。カラヴァッジョとスペインの詩人ケベドによる架空のテニス試合を軸に、芸術、宗教、征服の歴史を交錯させた『Sudden Death』（未邦訳）で、2013年にエラルデ小説賞を受賞。『Now I Surrender』（未邦訳）では、現在の米国とメキシコにまたがっていたアパッチの土地を舞台に、先住民と二つの国家との長い闘争を、歴史資料、冒険小説、自伝的な旅の記録を組み合わせて描いている。ナターシャ・ウィマーによる英訳は、2026年全米図書賞翻訳文学部門のロングリストに選ばれた。
Álvaro Enrigue (born 1969) is a Mexican novelist, short-story writer, and essayist from Guadalajara. He studied journalism at Universidad Iberoamericana and has worked as a cultural-magazine editor, columnist, and literature professor. His novel “Sudden Death,” which builds a wide-ranging history of art, religion, and conquest around an imagined tennis match between Caravaggio and the Spanish poet Quevedo, won the 2013 Herralde Novel Prize. In “Now I Surrender,” Enrigue combines archival history, adventure narrative, and an autobiographical journey to reconstruct the centuries-long struggle between the Apache peoples and the expanding states of Mexico and the United States. Natasha Wimmer’s English translation was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Translated Literature.
