Alex Perry is an American-born, British-raised journalist and nonfiction author. As a correspondent for TIME, he reported extensively from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and served as the magazine's South Asia bureau chief and later its Africa bureau chief. His reporting has covered war, terrorism, poverty, international aid, and natural-resource development, and his work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The Economist, National Geographic, and The Guardian. In "Blood Will Flow: The Murderous Business of Oil and Gas," Perry reconstructs the 2021 Islamist militant attack on Palma in northern Mozambique and investigates why help failed to reach people trapped near one of the world's largest natural-gas developments. Expanding his investigation across the global oil and gas industry, he examines how vast energy investments and corporate interests can become entangled with conflict, violence, and the costs borne by local communities.
