Akuto, also known as Sakikawa, is a Japanese writer, playwright and shogi VTuber. He began playing shogi while at university and combines literary writing with creating shogi-related content. As a resident playwright for the virtual-reality theater company TenGuRen, he writes scripts for performances in the metaverse. Explaining an aggressive Bishop Exchange Fourth-File Rook system for the second player, his 2026 book “Yababozu-ryu: Semete Katsu Kaku Kokan Shikenbisha” is a guide to winning through attacking play with the Yababozu system. Shogi video creator Yababozu, who devised the opening, supervised the book, while Akuto collected game records and wrote the explanatory text. The chapters move from the basic formation to early attacks, counterattacks on the second file and responses to the opponent’s plans. A central idea is to use the position of the opponent’s pawns to decide how to proceed. Drawing on his earlier experience publishing independent shogi books, Akuto also included questions and answers explaining terminology and castle formations associated with the system. His shogi writing uses actual games to connect an opening’s broader attacking ideas with the decisions players encounter in particular positions.
