Ajay Agrawal is a Canadian economist specializing in the economics of artificial intelligence, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He is a professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and founder of the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), a program supporting science- and technology-based startups. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia and has examined artificial intelligence not simply as a technological breakthrough but as an economic force that can reshape decision-making, competition, and business strategy. In "Prediction Machines: The Simple Economics of Artificial Intelligence," co-authored with Joshua Gans and Avi Goldfarb, Agrawal frames AI as a technology that dramatically reduces the cost of prediction and examines how cheaper prediction changes decision-making, the role of human judgment, business models, and competitive strategy.
