Adam Cohen is an American journalist and lawyer. He has worked as a senior writer for Time magazine and a member of The New York Times editorial board and has taught media and internet law at Yale Law School. In "Imbeciles: The Supreme Court, American Eugenics, and the Sterilization of Carrie Buck," Cohen examines the 1927 Supreme Court ruling that upheld the forced sterilization of Carrie Buck, a young woman wrongly classified as intellectually disabled. Through the people and institutions behind the case, the book traces how eugenic ideas spread through academia, politics, and the courts, giving legal authority to state control over reproduction. It was longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
