Kazuo Asama was a paleontologist at the National Museum of Nature and Science who studied fossil plants and biological evolution. The Palaeontological Society of Japan recognized his work on Paleozoic and Mesozoic plants in 1977. His book on why organisms evolved presented his own interpretation of the relationship between environmental change and the history of life.
