Mitsuo Aida (1924–1991) was a Japanese poet and calligrapher. He is widely admired for works that express the beauty of everyday life, the frailty of human nature, and the preciousness of life through simple yet profound words accompanied by his distinctive calligraphy. Influenced by Zen and Buddhist philosophy, Aida created numerous poems and calligraphic works, including the celebrated Ningen da Mono ("Because We're Human"), which continue to inspire readers across generations.
